Create Site Collection in New Content Database Script
In 2007 you had the stsadm command createsiteinnewdb. However, there is no PowerShell equivalent command in 2010. So, I created a script that performs the same action. It takes in input, creates a new site collection in a new content database, then sets the max site count to 1 and warning site count to 0 to lock it down from any other site collection being added to the database. This works great for scenarios where we build one site collection per department, division, etc.
Business/IT Collaboration is Critical to the Success of BI Initiatives
A significant number of business intelligence initiatives fail to succeed or even get going due to a lack of understanding of the fundamental nature of such an initiative. There is a co-dependency that must exist between the business lines and the technology delivery team in any business intelligence project. Interestingly, most BI projects are driven from the wrong location. Most are driven out of IT. Now, it makes sense when you think that all data roads go through the IT department, but the problem is that the focus tends to be on the technology used to deliver the information. The most successful BI projects are business driven, not technology focused.
Limit the People Picker in SharePoint 2010 to a Specific OU or Domain
Business Scenario:
There are two Site Collections: US and UK. Active Directory is setup to store United States users in the US Organizational Unit and United Kingdom users in the UK Organizational Unit. The requirement is to prevent US users from adding site/library/item permissions for UK users, and vice versa.
